Advertising is _________

"Slushy"

"Going Through Menopause"

"Dead"

...yet only 155 hits for "advertising is alive and well"

Why the recent Chicken Little bit?
Are brands not more integrated into peoples lives than ever? Is it not a fairly recent phenomenon that we express our individuality through diehard, sometimes religious brand loyalty? Don't you have a friend who is "a Mac guy" (who hates PCs), "a Coke guy" (who hates Pepsi), "a New Balance lady" who would never own Nike? What about the your friend that only drinks Anheuser Busch products? Or refuses to? Etc, etc, etc.

End of advertising?! We LOVE brands.

Pass the Corn

At first, she wasn't sure what to make of these people. All outward signs suggested they were a kind, happy, simple folk. But something nagged at her incessantly. She wouldn't trust them completely until she knew how serious they were about butter.

The Golden Standard

August 15, 2005

My personal standard of dryness after washing my hands in a public restroom is "dry enough to shake someone's hand right outside the bathroom without them wondering why your hand is wet". This generally takes three paper towels. At my new office, just two.

Have you had the experience of having a wonderfully original, profound realization out of nowhere only to find out that a sizeable community of people simultaneously had essentially the same idea? Is there a name for that phenomenon?

Internet Explorer 7 (logo) Improved!

"We haven't had time to fix many real problems, but our new logo kicks ass!"

Actually, these printing improvements will be pretty cool.

Folder Sync

Microsoft's new folder sync utility would be more useful to me if it could sync settings over the Internet (FTP/SCP, etc.). Once and for all their would be a good solution to keeping OneNote synchronized on my laptop, home and work PCs like I do with my bookmarks and address book.

August 01, 2005

If by chance you have subscribed to this humble blog using a feed aggregator such as NewsGator, SharpReader, Sage or Safari you may not be able to access the feed.

You: Why?
Me: I changed the feed URL.
You: Why?
Me: Instead of the default one published by my blogging service of choice, Blogger, I am using a FeedBurner feed.
You: Why?
Me: It does some cool stuff.
You: How do I subscribe to the new feed?
Me: The easy way is to click this little baddy: subscribe to feed. If you want to manually enter/change the feed URL in your aggregator, the URL is http://feeds.feedburner.com/ISpillDrinks
You: You are a dork.
Me: My reputation precedes me.

Your Noggin

In states that do not have mandatory helmet laws, is there lesser liability for the operator a car/truck/tractor/cow that knocks a motorcyclist to the pavement and they die as the result of a head injury?

I can support one's desire to choose the risks they take with their own life (wearing a seatbelt, skydiving, debating politics), I just don't want to get sued when their cow darts in front of me and they aren't wearing a helmet.
