What customs should I be aware of if my clients are from around the greater St. Louis area, Clayton, Chesterfield, St. Charles and such?

Perhaps the expectation that as a preamble to actual business dicussion, you must first determine the degrees of seperation between you and the client as determined by high-school experience:
"Parkway South? My sister's boyfriend had a brother who took Driver's Ed at Parkway South! What year were you there??"
And clearly, based on "dicussion" and "seperation" I clearly had no high-school experience at all.
